Are you new to the Myers-Briggs personality type craze, or have you hopped on the wagon way before the pandemic? In case you didn’t know, the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (or MBTI®) was established by Isabel Briggs Myers, and her mother, Katharine Briggs to determine personality types acquired by a short questionnaire. The goal of an MBTI test is to make personality type theories accessible for the general public. The MBTI personality test will assign you to one of 16 personality types based on your relationships with others (Introvert or Extrovert), how you process information (Sensing or Intuition), how you make decisions (Thinking or Feeling), and how you interact with your surroundings (Judging or Perceiving). Following the questionnaire, you will be assigned a four-letter “type label” that describes your MBTI personality type.
Not every personality type is suited for a certain job. There are some personality traits and attributes that can help a person advance in their line of employment. Not sure what your personality type is, and curious on what career path might be best for your MBTI personality type? Take the quiz below and then continue reading to find out.
LIFE COACH — ENTJ (the Commander), INTJ (the Architect), and INFJ (the Advocate)
A life coach is a professional who assists people in achieving happiness in their lives, whether it be through mending relationships or through overcoming daily obstacles. To be a life coach, individuals must have the tools and ability to make a difference in people's lives in a number of ways. They should also be able to help clients overcome negative ideas, worries, and the root causes of failure. Because of the specialized qualifications for becoming a life coach, not everyone can succeed in this sector. As a result, with some life coach training, the three personality types that are most suited to be a life coach are ENTJ (the Command), INTJ (the Architect), and INFJ (the Advocate).
- ENTJ the Commander
People with the ENTJ personality type were born to take charge. These Commanders are charming and self-assured, with a strong determination to succeed. ENTJs are also incredibly inspirational, which is an excellent quality to have as a life coach, as the objective is to inspire people to live a joyful life. Their charisma can be utilized to encourage someone to make a positive change in their lives.
- INTJ the Architect
INTJs are exceptional analyzers. Architects, being rationalists, rely heavily on facts and research. INTJs follow the rules and are driven to achieve their objectives. When working as a life coach, INTJs can demonstrate their strength by being determined to help their clients. Their inquisitive disposition helps them to learn about their customers' personalities and empathize with them.
- INFJ the Advocate
If your life coach is an INFJ, you may rest certain that you are in the hands of a consummate professional. Advocates are driven by a desire to serve others without expecting anything in return. INFJs strive to help individuals who are going through a difficult time, no matter what it is. Great life coaches are perceptive, a trait Advocates innately possess. INFJ life coaches have a natural ability to sympathize with and understand their clients' emotions and needs through their “sixth sense”. This can help them form deep bonds with their clients.
EDUCATION ASSISTANT — INFP (the Mediator), ENFJ (the Protagonist), and ESFJ (the Consul)
Education assistants are specialists that assist people, typically children, with special needs by offering a variety of assistance and instructional techniques in an educational setting. A good education assistant should have graduated from an education assistant program, and be well-versed in a specific disability as well as a variety of educational and developmental techniques. To be successful as an education assistant, individuals must be both patient and collaborative. INFP (the Mediator), ENFJ (the Protagonist), and ESFJ (the Consul) are some of the types who have naturally embraced these characteristics.
- INFP the Mediator
INFPs are people who are idealistic and sensitive and feel obliged to serve others. Mediators are empathetic and accommodating of others, and their patience allows them to work effectively with children. INFPs can flourish as teaching assistants because of their accepting attitude and desire to serve others.
- ENFJ the Protagonist
As natural born leaders, ENFJs make excellent instructors and coaches. They are also excellent communicators who can see a person's potential and encourage them to build on their talents. A Protagonist’s main goal is to assist their loved ones in becoming the finest version of themselves. Their charismatic quality means they are always willing to provide a helping hand to others, which is useful when working with children with special needs.
- ESFJ the Consul
There are no personality types that are better suited to be education assistants than the ESFJ. Consuls are the type of people that recall even the slightest details, which makes them ideal for working with children with special needs. The ability of an ESFJ to pay attention to the needs of others allows them to make a real impact in people's lives. They are also pleasant to be around and are sensitive to the sentiments of others. As a result, a Consul's ambience can help them excel as an education assistant.
ACCOUNTANT — ESTJ (the Executive) and ISTJ (the Logistician)
In Canada, accountants are in high demand, and a career in accounting is a wonderful option for anyone seeking job stability and competitive salary. Regardless, we all know that being an accountant is a difficult profession. Accounting professionals must be able to think critically and solve problems, as well as pay close attention to details while dealing with a company's or an individual's money. Not to mention that accountants must be proficient in a number of softwares that are critical to their profession. As a result, the ESTJ (the Executive) and ISTJ (the Logistician) personality types are the best fit for working as accountants.
- ESTJ the Executive
When it comes to their personality traits, ESTJs are considered to be conscientious and conventional. Executives are excellent organizers who can handle any assignment that comes their way. When dealing with the various tasks that come with the accountant profession, this characteristic might be a huge advantage. In fact, a 1996 research by Landry et al. discovered that 25% of accounting students tested as ESTJs. If this isn't a hint for you Executives to take accounting courses, I don’t know what is.
- ISTJ the Logistician
The ISTJ is the epitome of a model accountant. ISTJs adhere to the rules and traditions, which are essential traits when working in the field of accounting. Their meticulous and detailed nature also help them thrive in their environment. A Logistician’s love of guidebooks and schedules are also evidence that they are a perfect fit for the role of an accountant.
